Z-Line Ultralight Dyneema Backpacking Cord, Shock Cord, and Cord Hardware
Description:
We have a variety of cord available for tent guy lines, bear bagging, DIY projects and general purpose utility cord. In most backpacking applications you want cord that is lightweight and has minimal stretch. Scroll down for cord locks, line locs and other cord related hardware.
Polyester - Polyester is relatively inexpensive and it has less stretch than nylon. It has good abrasion and UV resistance. Polyester is a good general purpose cord, and it also makes a good abrasion resistant sheath on cord with a higher strength core.
UHMWPE - Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene is a top of the line fiber. It can be up to 15 times stronger than steel by weight, and it has even less stretch than polyester. If you want the lightest, strongest cord this is it. It goes by several trade names.
Spectra� - This is Honeywell's trade name for UHMWPE fiber.
Dyneema� - This is DSM's trade name for UHMWPE fiber.
Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF) - This fabric is made of Dyneema Fiber, which is UHMWPE made by DSM.

Z-Line Dyneema CordZ-line Dyneema cord is composed of a white Dyneema� core with a braided polyester sheath. Dyneema is ideal for many purposes because of its high strength to weight ratio, and the fact that it does not stretch. Regular un-sheathed Dyneema however is slippery and difficult to work with. The polyester sheath on Z-line gives it a stiff feel, makes it tangle resistant, and easier to tie and untie knots. This line also has a lot of grip; when used as a main tarp line or bear bag line, just wrapping it around a tree or branch a few times will hold steady without dealing with any knots. 1.2 mm cord is excellent for ultralight guy lines and will work with Micro Linelocs. 2.0 mm is the best choice for use with LineLoc 3 adjusters. Available in Yellow, or Black. The yellow cord is extremely bright and easy to see as guy-lines. It is not reflective but it does stand out well at night with a headlamp or in moonlight. Z-Line Reflective CordThis cord is constructed with an abrasion and UV Resistant Polyester Jacket, and a High Tenacity Polyester Core. The result is a finished product that is strong, low stretch, UV resistant, and very tangle resistant as its relatively stiff. The cord has super reflective 3M Scotlite tracers for great nighttime visibility. When hit with light they shine right back at you. The 2.3mm size works well with our LineLoc 3 tensioners. The 1.2mm size is better for shorter fixed length guylines, or it will work with Micro linelocs. Non-reflective Z-Line cord found above is a good alternative to this without the reflective tracer. The yellow Z-Line is brighter but not reflective.

Z-Line Slick CordThis cord is made of solid braided 100% UHMWPE fiber with no sheathe. It is smooth and slick which allows it to slide over branches easier, perfect for bear bagging. The 2.0 mm size is easier to grab a hold of and less tangle prone. The thinner line is good for fixed length guy-lines, or bear bagging only if you are careful. The slick line is not as bright and doesn't grip as well as the sheathed Z-line, but it is stronger by weight.

1 mm Polyester CordThis thin, light cord has a tensile strength around 80lbs. It isn't strong enough for guy-lines but it is excellent for replacing draw cords in stuff sacks and clothing and for DIY projects. Shock Cord Elastic1/16" shock cord is thin and good for light duty applications such as elastic draw cords. We use this for draw cords on clothing and some stuff sacks. It has about the same elasticity as a typical thin rubber band. Tiny cord locks fit well. 3/32" shock cord is better if you need more strength, for example for lashing gear to backpacks/ Mini cord locks fit well. This size is good for replacing broken elastic on tent poles. Sold in 15 feet (5 yards) / (4.57 meters) hanks.

Cord LocksThese ultralight cord locks are a perfect match for your lightweight draw cords. Our cord locks have a strong spring which grips thin cord well, and the shape is easy to press without hurting your fingers. The hole size will fit two passes of the specified cord diameter.

Micro Line Loc Guy Line AdjustersLine locs are used to adjust the length of the guy lines on your tent or tarp quickly and easily without dealing with knots. These Line Locs are the smallest and lightest available and are the only line adjusters that work with ultra thin cord. These are best for shorter guy lines. LineLoc 3 Guy Line AdjustersThese linelocs will fit thicker 2mm to 3mm cord. They work well with long or short guy lines, and they are less prone to tangling compared to Micro Line locs. You can purchase the Linloc alone for integration into DIY projects, or they can be purchased with loops of grosgrain ribbon sewn to each one so that they can be looped on to the tie outs on your existing shelter using a Lark's head knot. Our Plex style tents come with these installed, but our other tarps and shelters do not. These can also be attached to loops on your backpack for lashing things on. They work just like a ladder loc buckle commonly seen on shoulder straps, top straps etc. The 2 mm and larger Z-Line cord works best with these. The thinner cords that we sell will slip under high tension. These are also available as a side release buckle (LineLoc 3 WSR on our hardware page)
